World Travel Award Nominations

Cancun and Tulum are hoping to bring home the ¨Oscars of Tourism¨ at the ceremony held in Peru on July 1

Once again, Cancun and Tulum have been nominated by the World Travel Awards organization, also known as the Oscars of tourism, in the categories of Best Beach Destination and Best Tourist Destination.

Although Placencia and Ambergris Caye, both in Belize, previously took Best Beach Destination and Best Tourist Destination respectively, Tulum is preparing a better strategy to win these distinctions this year.

According to Mario Cruz Rodríguez, director of Tourism in Tulum, they will encourage visitors in the various hotels in the area to vote on the award program’s website. He also indicated that Playa Paraíso is still one of the most important beaches in the world according to TripAdvisor users.

“This is an important achievement, but we want to be the Best Beach Destination and the Best Tourist Destination. Tulum has what it takes to win”, he expressed.

This year, the award ceremony will take place on July 1 in Lima, Peru. Voting closes on May 6. A panel of independent professionals in the sector have been evaluating all aspects of hotel excellence and giving these awards in thousands of categories involving factors like productivity, innovation, creativity and client satisfaction, among others.
