The Art of Dog Rescue

Matteo Saucedo is a local artist and a long time dog rescuer who uses his art to save lives

Matteo Saucedo began rescuing dogs along with his mother in his hometown of Acàmbaro, Guanajuato. When he moved to Playa del Carmen in 2012, he tirelessly continued saving, rehabilitating and adopting out the street dogs of the area. Today, he is a big part of the street dog rescue community, and volunteer for various sterilization clinics throughout the Riviera Maya.

He is a self-taught artist and began painting as a hobby about nine years ago. His art is so popular that it has now become a full-time job, and his paintings continue to gain more recognition. The incoming orders keep him busy.

Most of his paintings are special orders, beautiful, brightly colored portraits that capture your pet’s personality.

All of the income he makes from these personalized works of art goes towards the expenses of dog rescue, medical bills, food and other expenses.

His works of art have been donated to many silent auctions and fundraisers to benefit animal welfare.

On April 23 to 24, there was a fundraiser event at Sandos Caracol Hotel with Cesar Milan, celebrity dog trainer. This fundraiser was aimed to help the different animal shelters in the area.

Matteo presented Cesar Millan with paintings of his beloved pitbulls, Daddy and Junior and a hand painted Boston terrier shirt. Cesar posted the amazing paintings on Facebook, bringing attention to his art from a wider audience and potential clients. Cesar plans to keep the portrait of Daddy and create an auction with the other two pieces of art as a fundraiser. It should be noted that Matteo also paints portraits of people too. Even after painting for a celebrity like Cesar Milan, Matteo states that his most important painting so far is a portrait he did of his mother.

By ordering a living memorial of your pet, not only will you receive an exclusive, one of a kind portrait, but you will contribute to saving a dog’s life as well.
