4th Annual Seaside Rotary Golf Classic
Proceeds to benefit disadvantaged children and families
The 4th Annual Seaside Rotary Golf Classic Tournament tees off at 8 a.m. on Saturday April 9 at the Hard Rock Golf Club in Playacar. This year it will feature a raffle prize drawing with more than $100,000 MXN in prizes. John Marty, who is heading up this year’s event, shares with us that this is the Seaside Rotary Club’s largest fundraiser of the year, accounting for more than 70 percent of their charitable giving funds each year.
This year’s tournament, presented by Tequila Barrel, expects to draw between 75-100 players, in a scramble format, which allows even the most amateur-level golfer to contribute to the foursome’s score. In a scramble, each player plays their ball from the location of the best shot of the foursome. Numerous special prize contests are included three closest to the pin, longest drive, straightest drive, and beat the pro. There will even be a putting contest.
A gala awards luncheon featuring Cuisine Del Carmen tasting stations from Don Chendo, La Patrona de la Playa, Yaxche and others will follow the tournament. All food and beverages on the course and at the luncheon are included in the price of registration and provided by Heineken and Strongbow.
In conjunction with this year’s event, an online auction, sponsored by Condo Hotels, features more than 70 gift certificates and other items from restaurants, hotels, and services, with the total value exceeding $125,000 MXN. Although the Seaside Rotary was founded only four years ago by a group of English-speaking expats, it now boasts nearly 40 members with a mission to help the disadvantaged children and families in the Playa Del Carmen area and has raised, through the tournament alone, well over a quarter million pesos for charitable giving in Quintana Roo.
