Kava Kasa Local Market
The popular weekly market stocking vegan, sustainable and handcrafted products has a new home
The Kava Kasa local market we’ve all come to know and love has now opened in a new location. Nestled in the sunny courtyard of the boutique condo hotel Quinta Margarita on Calle 32 between 5th and 10th Avenue, you can find Kava Kasa market open for business every Tuesday from 11 am to 2 pm.
Started by local Playenses Marta Sosa and Monica Bustamante five years ago in 2013, the market specializes in offering locally produced goods from a variety of vendors. Open to all, the market serves tourists, expats and locals, and it is often announced on hotel itineraries in and around Playa del Carmen as a local activity for tourists visiting the area.
Vegan produce is popular at the market, along with homemade baked goods, pastries, delicious samosas, salads and healthy drinks like kombucha. Find an array of jewelry and brightly colored Mexican handcrafted purses, bags and sandals.
With a focus on sustainability, you can also find reusable bamboo cutlery, metal straws with a handy carry case and cleaner and bamboo toothbrushes along with natural toothpaste. The community-minded vendors at Kava Kasa market aim to promote the use of sustainable materials over disposable plastics wherever possible.
Natural cosmetics and Chinese traditional medicine also make an appearance at the market alongside superfoods, supplements and energy balls.
The Kava Kasa vendors aim to offer better prices than specialty stores carrying the same type of merchandise, so mark your calendar for every Tuesday and support your local community market.
